South - Willie Nelson's Texas Roadhouse

Another wonderful adventure to Texas Roadhouse! This location in particular is owned by the one and only Willie Nelson. Complete with memorabilia on the walls and occasional country tunes. We enjoy the lively atmosphere and excellent service here.
We always come for the rolls, and stay for the steak! Specifically the Dallas Fillet, their specialty cut, which is divinely tender and juicy. I order medium rare and it always comes out as intended.
I used to order the sirloin, but it was a hit or miss cut. Now that I get the Dallas Fillet, my steak is always delicious.
My side of chili was on the spicier side - not toddler approved,  but I quite enjoyed it and as an adult would say it had a kick but was very yummy. I got it topped with the cheddar and onions at no additional charge.
My mashed potatoes were delicious and buttery, fully loaded with bacon, butter, and cheddar for a dollar and a half extra.
The salmon was very tender/flakey and well seasoned with lemon and butter. The green beans were likely canned and then cooked with bacon, also really good, but probably my least favorite side.

The other side is Nathan's special - a baked sweet potato fully loaded like a regular potato which was excellent. Asher enjoyed the fish, mashed potatoes, and steak the most, but he had some green beans, and sweet potato.
This location is popular, and we had a 35-45 min wait on a Thursday around 7:30PM. The estimated wait was accurate and we were sat shortly after checking in. The hostess seating us was very kind and asked if we were celebrating anything, to which I replied "life!"
The waitress, Maria Garcia, was wonderful. She communicated well, made sure our drinks stayed topped up, upsold but not in a pushy way, and then she went above and beyond! She got me a to-go strawberry lemonade (on the sweet side and very good) and it accidentally got bussed off the table so she made me another and met me on the way out! Thank you Maria!! Definitely top service at this location and we really enjoyed our meals.

Life Changing Snow Cones: Shaved Ice Island

Shaved Ice Island: Life Changing Snow Cones
2701 W William Cannon Dr, Austin, TX 78745

"Life changing snowcones” How could a snow cone be life changing right?
So after driving passed it several times we finally stopped in. WOW. The first thing I thought was “Snow cones with ICE CREAM?”

These are ridiculous, Check this out:
Taro Milk with Sprinkles from Heaven?

Mango Lassi with REAL MANGO PUREE?

Wedding Cake made with an actual wedding cake? (Totally kidding on that one...it's not)

OH MY.

Best snow cones in austin for sure. Try a gourmet cone… or the horchata is amazing. We bowl a league at West gate lanes and this will now be a favorite go-to before or after we bowl.

DK MARIAS

On tonight's date we went to DK Maria's and had a great time.
1807 W Slaughter Ln, Austin, TX 78748 By Slaughter and Manchaca in South Austin.

We ordered the Queso Flameado (A suggestion from the list) Chicken Fajitas, and Pork Tamales with Two Deep Eddy Lemon Vodka and Sprites. We were driving up from house shopping in San Marcos and got there about an hour till close, but you couldn't tell, both the food and the service was great. We got two drinks, two meals, and an appetizer for $42 plus tip which is great for the amount of food that we got. We both went home stuffed and with leftovers. I was pretty full splitting only the Queso Flameado. Then our food came out!

The Queso Flameado was good, but it's not Tex-Mex cheese dip like you might be thinking. This is a fajita plate (a cast iron plate if you have never eaten fajitas) with Monterrey Jack cheese, Chorizo, Onions, Peppers, mushrooms, the whole shebang. You can dip your chips in it Scoop it onto your chip with a fork (we did that) but it comes with either corn or flour tortillas for you to scoop the fried and melty cheese into and eat it like a taco. It is really filling and you could easily eat it as an entree.

PROTIP: Elevate one side of the Queso Flameado so that the grease runs off to one side. When you heat cheese or chorizo, the grease will separate, so drain it off to one side and enjoy the rest.

We were going to split an order of chicken fajitas but we decided to add a half dozen pork tamales because I ate all the tamales we had last time we got them and Amber only got one. (my bad...)

The fajitas were good, they came out sizzling with a bowl of Lettuce, Tomatoes, Guacamole and Sour Cream. We got half and half flour and corn tortillas. The flour tortillas were cooked well and not burned, the corn tortillas were moist, I would recommend both because they were both good.

We got great service even though we arrived 50 minutes to close. The food came out quickly and the two drinks between the two of us were enough to make us go home feeling great. (Thanks bartender.)

Holy potatoes was this a good meal. Maybe it was the fact that we had spent all day driving around and shopping, maybe it was our one drink each, but we really enjoyed ourselves. I would go back anytime.

Thanks for the suggestion!
